Pros

Great exposure to technology and corporate culture. Good work/life balance. Decent compensation and great benefits.

Cons

If you stay in one role for more than a few years you could end up stuck there. Not to mention things become repetitive very fast so move around in order to stay relevant and continuing to learn. Management is not in sync across the bored so you can be a super star on one team, but a complete failure based on the criteria of another team. This is harmful to those who want to move around in the company.

Advice to Management

More meaningful feedback on what it takes to reach the next level in your career. Set concrete expectations across the board to help maximize performance.

    Pros

Job Security is above average. Befits are good, Choices for Health Life, Dental and Vision. Stock options are not offered anymore. Employee stock purchase program is good. Training and education are Very good. Diverse culture. Employee's are encouraged to expand and move out of their box into other areas to get ahead. Salary is average or just above average. Cisco is a VERY very large company so experiences and situations will vary depending on location. In The United States, East Coast RTP TAC has some of the most intelligent people on earth. They are good at what they do and they enjoy doing it.

    Cons

Compensation is lacking. Once you branch out of the lower levels such as support you start to run into road blocks. The company is VERY political internally. Management is great , above average at talk on ideas and planning but lacks the ability to create a complete strategy and execute on it. The company as of 2014 is facing its greatest challenge. Share holders want to see double digit returns on the core business, Routing and Switching. These are based on bare metal products. Bare metal is going away. Amazon and Google have already eroded some of this. Cisco does have a cloud strategy however its late unproven, and complex and full of issues. Cisco will fall behind in 2014 so do not expect a great deal of hiring. Bonus Compensation is based on performance and for FY13 this was sub par. Looking into FY14 this trend is expected to continue, companies own words. Same CEO has been had the helm since day 1. CEO and top tier base strategy on acquisitions. This is has stopped working. Simply buying a product or company does not make the grade anymore you have to be able to align and execute. Cisco is in a free-fall in this respect. From a Services perspective Cisco is missing the boat. The company has yet to figure out how to deliver on this. Then again so has its competitors.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking and start doing. You have Vision but no working strategy and nothing to execute on. Enough with the power points lets get the ball rolling. Idle minds and Idle hands lead to problems. Stop cutting us into a corner to improve numbers. Cisco is not broke.

    Pros

Work-life balance Family-friendly Collaborative and helpful Good mentorship Bay area is great Nice benefits/comp New collaborative workspace --migrating away from isolated cubicles Upper level management and execs are remarkably down-to-earth and approachable

    Cons

Huge company --makes it difficult for things to get done. Communication can be poor going down the pyramid Meetings can be a bit impersonal when they are conducted so frequently in a virtual space Corporate culture can borderline on complacency Delegation of work can be more efficient

    Advice to Management

Improve in communicating the same message to everyone
