Current Employee - Services Marketing Manager  in  San Jose, CA
Current Employee - Services Marketing Manager in San Jose, CA

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

Great work life balance; I work mostly from home, and go into the office when I feel I need to.

Cons

I've been here for 8 years, received wonderful reviews, got some pay raises, but NEVER have been promoted. There is a sea of grade 10s like me who have been the same.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of hiring 3 college grads who need one on one time, and nurturing, why not promote the folks who are actually making a difference in the workplace???

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time

    Pros

Good salary; very, very stable company. Rarely needed to go work over the weekend. Overall very 'comfortable'.

    Cons

Zero social life; not too 'Human' for a "Human Network".

I didn't agree on some of the liberal stands of the CEO.

It's almost impossible to grow in it.

I never really enjoyed my work there.

Former Employee - MBA Intern in San Jose, CA

I worked at Cisco Systems as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    - Flexible
    - Competitive pay
    - Everyone was very open and welcoming. I networked and had lunch with a lot of people.
    - Treated us like we were a true member of the team.

    Cons

    - Cisco implements a lot of virtual meetings. Sometimes it was hard to really get managers to sit down with you one on one. This is because they were either working remotely or were completely booked with meetings.
    - It was too easy to have an entire day of tele-presence meetings. Sometimes I felt that multiple weekly meetings could have been condensed into 1 longer meeting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Maybe try to implement a sort of "rotation" program so interns (especially MBA interns) can see the kind of project going on in other divisions.
