I have been working at Cisco Systems as an intern (less than a year)

Pros

You work with some of the smartest people in networking, many CCIEs, everyone is usually willing to help you. The company treats co-ops pretty well. They pay for co-ops to get their CCNA.

Cons

Management for the co-ops could greatly improve.

    Pros

Great people, great benefits, great learning opportunities, great customers, great mentors, opportunities to develop career path.

    Cons

Don't get old there, don't start young there, 4-10 year career and move on, no loyalty

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Software, software, software, need to integrate acquisitions' products better (not just marketing wrapper)

Current Employee - Senior Program Manager in San Jose, CA

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Networking with People, Development opportunities, Good benefits, Flexible, encourage education & training

    Cons

Bureaucratic & Highly political environment, lot of repetitive / competitive work in parallel groups, lack of consistent messaging on strategy, Focus on individual LOB rather than whats good for the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep IC's engaged. Reduce redundant jobs and encourage collaboration. Cisco is missing out on HUGE wins due to defensive mind sets and people not willing to collaborate due to sense of job security. Encourage knowledge sharing across divisions & functions.
