I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Smart, Motivated People
Decent Salary, at least in sales
Work, life balance is good and better than most companies
Company values are strong and they enjoy giving back

Cons

The work ethic and level of engagement has fallen off in some areas
People are less motivated, possibly because of stock, and many don't go extra mile
The speed of change and red tape is cumbersome and frustrating
The ability to influence and change process is hard, long and challenging, if it happens at all

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on speed and agility. Truly embrace different perspectives and thoughts, don't just talk about it.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Cisco is a workplace filled with thoughtful, intelligent co-workers. The corporate culture emphasizes integrity, productivity, and collaboration. People are rewarded based on individual, team, and organizational effectiveness and, ultimately, results. Despite the mammoth size of Cisco, people are encouraged to experiment and innovate.

    Cons

The sheer size of Cisco sometimes results in tricky cross-functional dynamics. The management team has tried to address that with a variety of approaches, most famously with the management "counsels." There have been times when this uncertain environment has led to the company being influenced to take unexpected product diversions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick to what the company does best -- large/mid-market networking-based technologies and services. Be honest with the employee base. Cisco is in the business of making money. It's not a family. Don't pretend it is. People will appreciate the straight talk.
