I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Good work, great people, flexibility, challenging work, great customers and visibility.

Cons

Constant changes in direction, compensation stays stuck where you first started, arcane performance review process. Self promoters do well at the expense of those who actually contribute.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update the compensation structure, recognize contributions. Need major changes to sales goaling, it needs to look at more than just the fiscal year - make it relevant to long term outcomes.

    Limited to networking technology
    Promotions are a bit slow
    Bonuses are stingy compared to other large companies

    I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    No company has ever treated me as well as Cisco did.
    Stellar benefits.
    Constant training and incentive to grow.
    Regular promotion from within.
    Managers were some of the finest I've ever worked for.
    Basically, I had to work at a bunch of other companies before I realized just how good I had it at Cisco.

    Cons

    Pay slightly lower than the industry average.
    Stock is flat, so options don't mean what they did.
    From a customer's perspective the company has lost their soul and forgotten that the customers put them where they are today. Too many companies now buying ABC - Anybody But Cisco because Smartnet is expensive and of dubious benefit when engineers just send you links so you can Read The Fine Manual.
    All bugs public is a lie.
    Company hasn't figured out they aren't still a startup, so the workload is crushing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop talking about taking care of your customers and actually do it. You're charging a fortune for support but aren't staffing the TAC enough to actually support their callers.
