    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - None. I think Cisco management does a good job of executing the plans, I am not sure the employee ranking systems is a positive.

Current Employee - Technical Leader  in  San Jose, CA
Current Employee - Technical Leader in San Jose, CA

I have been working at Cisco Systems

    Pros

Good breadth of technologies to work on.
Relatively easy to move around within.
Some very good techies to work with and learn from.
    Good infrastructure.

    Cons

Technical skills and engineers are not valued, except for the very top few.
Growth mostly for management side of the company though it professes equal opportunity for technical and management growth
Usually clueless senior management on the technical side of the company.
Too much bloat in middle management.
Usually incompetent junior and middle management on the engineering side.
Too much emphasis on process stifles new ideas and the ability to move fast.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize that technical people are valuable to the company and treat technical people on par with management people. Otherwise you risk becoming a 'Powerpoint presentation' company.
