I have been working at Citi full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Great People and an enjoyable, fairly relaxed atmosphere on any given day -- (when the "cons" aren't working against you". The work is interesting and challenging.

Cons

Unpredictable workload resulting in existing staff having to "power through" any heavy months of activity. The idea of an 8 hour day doesn't exist the last two weeks of any month... just too much to do and not enough time to do it. This "maximizing efficiency" approach can start to feel like your full time salaried position is a definite disadvantage, resulting in earning less and less per hour.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management appears unwilling or unable to have a buffer to anticipate additional workload. There needs to be a way to have additional staff "trained up" and ready to bring on board so that there is not several months of impossible deadlines before help arrives.

CPB Global Technology - full of "lifers" and "yellers" at the senior levels making it a tense environment

    Pros

Face-paced, high pressure org with a lot of solid people working here.
CTO is bright, driven and steers a very tight ship.
Most members of the Senior Mgt team are quality people with the best of intentions.

    Cons

Org is extremely hierarchical (although, you'll be told its a flat).
Senior Management expectations are generally not with reality.
Many at mgt level are Citi "lifers" with a narrow view of the outside working world.
Many at SVP & Director level manage through intimidation & bullying and CTO is either clueless or supports it. Little in the way of stewardship or respect for the individual.
Org is often powerless to the will and diction of umbrella tech org, ICG Technology.
As a result of all this, culture is terrible and morale often very low. Several attempts to improve have failed over the past few years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Annual employee survey results are misleading - no one answers those questions with complete honesty. Confront the real issues, stop intimidating & bullying staff and find ways to encourage people in meaningful conversations that generate ideas to improve morale.

I worked at Citi full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Really good opportunity for advancement if you are willing to work hard and apply yourself

    Cons

This is not the right company for you if you are not good at playing politics and kissing up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have lost more than half of your real talent. Stop bleeding out your best resources. No company can really grow while losing so many good resources.
