I worked at Citi

Pros

Various levels of movement. The promotion potential is positive for those who work and put forth an effort.

Cons

With any organization it's the people. The company overall was good to me.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep employees informed of changes in regulation and provide sufficent time to implement those changes to meet standard. Then again - I racked in 20 hours of OT because of the lack of communication!

I have been working at Citi

    Pros

Lots of internal opportunities in good times. Some of the best people around. Excellent benefits package and above average compensation.

    Cons

Current uncertainty as per the future of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce bureaucracy, stimulate innovation on each business, invest in talent development and in moving people around different businesses.

    I worked at Citi

    Pros

Lot of locations from which to choose.

    Cons

I believe the job of the financial consultant, as structured by Citi - as well as Merrill, MS, and UBS - has inherent conflicts with the structure: the consultants are to raise the money and be the very same people to manage the portfolio. I was shocked (and disgusted) overhearing people talk about the investments they made for their clients because those same investments yielded a premium commission for them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow Sanford C. Bernstein's model. Hire smart people to raise money and hire different smart people to manage it.
