I worked at Citi full-time (more than a year)

Pros

- Locations all around the world.

- A successful transaction processing business.

- A big brand name on your CV

Cons

- Incompetent middle managers whose main responsibilities seem to be to "fabricate relevance", "only pretend to add value" and "brown-nosing".

- Dirty Politics

- Tall poppies will be chopped.

- Absolutely no respect for employees & their personal time

- Startlingly low diversity, especially at the tech & ops. division. If you aren't in the "correct" ethnic group & sub group, you don't stand a chance.

- Merit has little value, only brown-nosing to be part of the right clique can get you ahead

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Value the people you "manage" (or "fail to manage effectively"), you are irrelevant without them.

- Respect the people who can actually deliver, especially if you are not one of them.

Love the place. A pity about the politics.

Former Employee - Managing Director (ICG)

I worked at Citi full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The smart people (and lifetime friendships), the business buzz, the blue chip client franchise, the well-resourced infrastructure (esp from the outside looking in), the opportunities to experience and grow as a professional.

    Cons

The size, and the dysfunctional that is a consequence. You can be rated high-potential one year, and be made redundant the next if you happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your gender diversity stats, and the number of hi-pos you are losing, voluntarily or involuntarily. Great respect for Corbat, but I wonder if he's really got his eye on the talent drain. The company is managing by numbers and not by focusing on the lifeblood of its business -- its people!

I have been working at Citi full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, you can work from home. Good salary and career development (if you are into Management).

    Cons

Uff so many, I can't count them. Big corporation, so expect a lot of blocked websites (do you want to see the news? tough luck with that)
If you are in IT, don't expect to advance your career as an expert.
No challenges, no innovation, bored out of my mind, burocracy for even rudimentary tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IT is not only cost...it can also be so much than that (Innovation is around the corner if you can only embrace it).
