Citizens is a quasi-governmental entity with dedicated people and out of touch leadership.

I have been working at Citizens Property Insurance full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great health care and above average retirement benefits, but not as good as State employees to whom Citizens is compared as a quasi-governmental entity..

Cons

Compensation not competitive w/private industry. Treated like Government, but Govt employees have defined benefit pension as opposed to 4013b. After 4 years of no raises, a 3% merit and a 5% increase in health premiums. Poor work life balance. Work loads across org very unequal. Some areas very lax, others have to work tons over just to stay afloat.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your people. Since salaries are published in the press (Florida Sunshine law), one would think they would be more fair; they're not!

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere amongst co-workers, and you may be issued a government ID, which you can use for less expensive hotel rates outside of work. Work / life balance is good unless it happens to be storm season. Good opportunity for overtime, though!

    Cons

Executives are hyper-critical, and their heads are always on the chopping block. Stressful atmosphere. Citizens considers itself quasi-governmental. Meaning, it's goverened by the state, but isn't exactly a state office. Management uses this term to their benefit... they are state if it benefits them, and non-state if it doesn't. For example, they tell you that you are paid lower wages because it falls in line with how state employees are paid. But they also tell you that you have a shorter set of paid holidays than state offices because Citizens isn't officially a state office. The Human Resources department, instead of acting as a HUMAN resource, is in the back pockets of the executives. Nothing you take to them can be considered confidential. It is ALL relayed back to your manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get the crooks out of Tallahassee. Stop taking bribes from contractors so they can get on Citizens' "preferred" vendor list (Preferred means "use these companies ONLY).
