I have been working at Citrix Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Good work/life balance, ok benefits, good salary, good location, nice products. Used to be a fun, humble, hard working place.

Cons

Not fun anymore, they're hiring a bunch of Cisco people ... they are spreading the Cisco disease (why don't those people every smile?), non-technical people in management.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are promoting people to director, VP levels who are just "working" their managers. Too many VP's who don't know what they are doing. ex: I've seen VP's in Marketing who have never run a campaign. Campaign, what is that? The recent CMO hire is a joke. Once you are in, forget about being promoted, you literally have to beat your manager over the head to even consider it. Raises are too low, only 2%-3% a year, not even keeping up with inflation, which is probably why alot of people leave Citrix.

    Pros

Well placed in the market. Open to new ideas. Strong stewardship of putting employees and their families first. Growing design focus. Able to collaborate with other people and groups in the organization.

    Cons

Reluctance to change and adapt to new ideas, basically paralysis by over-analysis. Limited benefits compared to other companies. Limited career path. Mixed support from management to grow. Lots of meetings with no clear outcome.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really take a hard look at some of the business models. Some models are broken and actually detract from the larger company goals. There are a lot of talented people in all parts of the organization that are not heard.

I worked at Citrix Systems full-time

    Pros

    CEO is an awesome visionary
Committed to career advancement, regular promotion reviews
Great people (for the most part)
Working environment is casual and flexible
    Fast-paced, ever evolving environment
Growing and taking leadership of the market

    Cons

The only downside to working at Citrix (which is a big one, unfortunately) was the senior management within my particular department. A very clique-like, political atmosphere that makes it difficult for those who actually work hard and have an opinion to advance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider instituting regular 360 reviews - so that employees have as much of a chance to provide feedback in a safe environment as their managers do towards them.
