Emphasis on work and life balance.
    Generally a respectful work environment.
Lots of different projects and lines of business
    Stable work environment

    Cons

    Bureaucracy gets really complicated.
Traditional Hierarchical organization. IT is very top heavy.
There is absolutely no technical career track. If you want to get promoted you need to give up being technical.
Stable work environment but you have to carry the slackers' workload.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please pay attention to folks doing the work
Get out of the ivory tower and try to understand the projects and challenges before subjecting the folks to major decisions.

I worked at City of Calgary

    Pros

It was a great position for a student. I went to school in the winer time and made 17 dollars an hour in the summer. 4 days work weeks!

    Cons

My biggest complain was that there was no lunch break. There was two 20 minutes for a 9 work work week and that's it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest to the City of Calgary to keep a closer watch over employees. Government work was so inefficient!
