Pros

My coworkers are competent, intelligent, reliable, honest people that are trying to make a positive difference in peoples lives.

Cons

The management has forgotten what it takes to make a successful business run....they should focus on the employees instead of what makes others happy.

    Pros

My upper managers were reasonable with time frames of projects.
Other employees were nice and great to work with.
Pretty stable work environment since it is a municipal government after all.

    Cons

The office seemed a little too sealed off at time.
Some of the departments are too siloed off.
A little too divided in working

  2. Low morale, unethical quota system, self serving supervisors, no loyalty or trustworthiness among peers

    Pros

salary is very competitive for a mid-size agency

    Cons

Quota style evaluation system detracts from quality of work
    Unethical practices in community policing
Arrogance among peers, immaturity, gossip and favoritism
Poor training practices, focus on meeting quantity over quality

    Advice to Management

Morale is HORRIBLE, ditch the CQT and quota evaluation systems....it will eventually be the demise of this agency untarnished past and it is unethical. Reevaluate your training officers and how the whole FTO system operates. They (including the sergeants and commanders over training) are not practicing with best interests in mind and team up against any recruits who they feel unworthy of being among them. Unethical philosophy and training practices are used to wash out some very good officers. The ones who do make it are lost in low morale, arrogant supervisors, poorly planned staffing minimums, ridiculous schedule changes and countless prospects of better treatment at another agency. At least those are the reasons I left. It was difficult to watch new recruits dragged through the mud to prove a point to mgmt. CPD's reputation was lost several years ago to condescending arrogance toward other agencies, even their own city marshal's office sneers at them. Also, put some term limits on specialty positions. Give others a chance at promoting their careers within the agency before they do so outside. CPD is hemorrhaging thousands in recruit salaries and academy expenses every year only to have the ones that make it plan to leave because they have no future here.
