Current Employee – been working at City of Edmonton
Pros – One of the best work to pay ratio's on the market. A growing government undergoing a massive transformation at all levels. This presents many growth opportunities for the willing. IT department is extremely progressive in very traditional industry. If you want to improve Edmonton, this is the best place to do it. Compensation is above average and every second Friday/Monday off is a very nice addition.
Cons – Typical government red tape. Like most government jobs the high performers do not get top dollar compared to private companies and but work just as long. Budgets are tied to city budgets, therefore planning out professional development can be tricky.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep being more progressive. The youth of the organization really love this.
