I have been working at City of Portsmouth, NH School Department
Pros – Location, on the seacoast and Portsmouth is a fun town.
Cons – Top down management style
Problems are ignored.
Favorites are evident.
No compensation for working hard or doing a good job.
Communication is poor when questions are asked.
Teachers are reprimanded if they question authority.
Priorities are set at the top not allowing employees to voice what should be a priority.
Daily schedule has some days with no breaks - teaching 6 hours with a 20 minute lunch.
Kids don't seem to come first.
No oversight or peer, parent or student review system.
No evaluation of programs that have been instituted.
New programs every year with no evaluation of old programs by faculty to see what is working and what isn't.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to employees
Weed out incompetence
Hire smarter people
Force principals to react to teacher requests and acknowledge them.
More collaboration to point out problems that need fixing.
Use common sense.
