I worked at City of Seattle full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good smart people, wanting to provide good service. Reasonable benefits, although once pay is set, can be hard to get increases.

Cons

Difficult to implement change. Can be disillusioning to see how the sausage gets made at times.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower employees to make change, add input and incentive work (not necessarily with $$).

    Benefits
    Union representation
    Experience
    Advancement opportunities
    Location
    Office environment

    Cons

    There is no accountability.
Outdated and archaic in almost every way.
    It is a call center
    infighting between representatives
    Poor management
Handling calls regarding five lines of business
Training with regards to all five lines of business
After minimal training they give you a headset and put you on the phones.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Engage with and be willing to defend the supervisors and representatives. Create and embrace an environment that doesn't make reps feel like there is an "us against them" mentality. Communicate effectively any and all changes in a timely manner. Train representatives who "need training" or "show learning gaps" instead of simply terminating them.
