Pros

Common sense of purpose arising from public service Fair and meritocratic Management go out of their way to make staff feel valued and consulted Some of the brightest people I've met. Participating in key news headline issues.

Cons

Poor pay Management need to lead as well as empower/consult Bureaucratic and political Muddled management structures

Advice to Management

Leading is as important as getting buy in from the staff.

    Pros

job security was always one but job cuts and redeployment not suited to employee now rule the day . service now looks to cost cut everywhere but where it should really be made.

    Cons

lack of real inclusion especially if siting in provincial (non head office type )offices. Civil service often for politicla reasons has various sites. If you are not on the site where cheif mandarins sit (ie london) you do not matter. Do not get cream or important "contracts" and consequently non of the recognition

    Advice to Management

Need to be more inclusive and less nepotistic with only opportunities for favoured staff arising as they by postion they are able to show they have carreer progression potential

  2. Outdated and unfair

    Pros

Been in civil service for almost 6 years. In that time I have delivered well. Some flexibility, good working conditions. Varied project work.

    Cons

Removel of spine points big mistake as it has lead to demotivated work force. Box 2 means some just stay above improving box and many people just tick along. Staff development and very very limited promotion as people don't move on.

    Advice to Management

Develop people and help them follo a path. Bring back spine points and encourage all to have mentors to help forge a career. I like what I do but can see me leaving as salary freeze is unfair and limited promotion. People stay in jobs too long for any new people coming in
