I worked at Clayton County public Schools

Pros

Pay superior to other metro systems. Don't be fooled...it is combat pay.
Combat pay facilitates getaways and resourceful ways to alleviate stress.
Coworkers are intelligent, nurturing, competent educators.
Many teachers hold advanced degrees.
Team planning.
Students are capable and eager.
Frequent reviews.
Professional learning available.
Technology is utilized across the disciplines.

Cons

District in a fish bowl.
Board reflects poorly on what truly occurs at local schools.
Leadership "flips the script" on teachers, denying or withdrawing support.
High levels of nepotism and presence of cliques.
Twenty-30% students per class pose discipline concerns that are typically remanded to teachers when the follow the protocols to manage the classroom.
Lack of parental involvement; inappropriate parental involvement.
Leadership has ways, means, and manipulative strategies to foster fearful environments without detection, especially against those who perceive and articulate these practices.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fearfulness is not respect and the atmosphere is toxic with fear. You have the power and authority to alter this course.
Treat people the way you want to be treated.
CYA policies in full effect and poop runs down hill: cover the children!
Support the teachers in the trenches.
Distribute discipline concerns more evenly among classrooms.
Inform teachers of immediate and upcoming expectations.
Create ways for parents to be meaningfully and appropriately involved.
Develop systemic procedures and protocols to help teachers with classroom management and to promote uniformity of discipline between classrooms, local schools, and system wide.

    Pros

The benefits are ok. The fulfillment you get from working with the kids. You meet some wonderful people and build good solid friendships and professional relationships.

    Cons

The powers that be are incompetent! Like completely! Clayton is paying entirely too many people too much money. We are currently paying three superintendents; how ridiculous!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All principals, consults, coaches should be required to have teaching experience! Think, clearly, before you act. Consult the community before making drastic decisions. Don't give a binus and then take it back because you did't THINK!

I have been working at Clayton County public Schools

    Pros

Staff members are friendly and supportive. Everyone has the same goal which is student achievement. Most principals are approachable and want you to succeed.

    Cons

Very transient population. Students move from school to school so that makes it very hard when you're trying to help students.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really look at our population of students and how challenging it is. There should be something in place to assist with the transiency.
