I have been working at Cleveland Clinic

Pros

Many locations within the system to work. Only company still employing people in the area.

Cons

Management needs to be overhauled - too stuck in their ways. No encouragement to upgrade skills by dept mgt or HR dept staff.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

USE POINT SYSTEM THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED ON PERFORMANCE REVIEWS AND TO GET RID OF DEADWEIGHT EMPLOYEES!! Too many employees "get away with it", and are not dealt with by reprimanding them, verbal warnings, written warnings and finally firing if they continue their unacceptable behaviors and attitudes. Very discouraging to employees who work hard, come in every day, and have integrity, and truly care about those they serve and those they work for and with work. It is unfair and very frustrating!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find ways to allow employees with obvious high talent ceilings to thrive.

    I worked at Cleveland Clinic

    Pros

Great name, works hard to improve their image and facilities, has many long-term people who stay there for entire careers, lots of training and development, great job opportunities once you are inside to change areas.

    Cons

It's Cleveland (what else can I say), although there are plenty of really nice areas in Ohio to live and do a little commute. As a very large health system, it has a heavy political element. And you can drink the Kool-aid and be a "team" player, or be part of the majority of people who are happy to have a job in the area. Lots of cross-town rivalry between Case Western and University Hospitals, but it also provides another opportunity to change jobs if you don't like one (join the other).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep pushing the curve in transforming the healthcare paradigm, and striking a balance with valuing people and diversity of thinking and lifestyles. Think harder about all doctors wearing their labcoats everywhere. It reinforces an old and outdated (and standoffish) visual of doctors being the expert and running the show.
