I worked at Coastal Bend College

Pros

Great supportive people and staff. A lot of student and staff activities that make work fun. Work is challenging on most days.

Cons

Some of the older staff and faculty seem to be in a rut and resistant to change which makes the culture sometimes challenging. Many of the students seem confused and unmotivated.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mandatory Orientation give the students more direction and advice on how college works.

I have been working at Coastal Bend College full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent faculty who truly care about student success. Wonderful, unique, and diverse student body. Much potential for growth for instructors.

    Cons

Adjunct pay is terrible. Political climate is worst I've ever seen. Board of Trustees and top administration detest faculty. Faculty haven't had a raise in years but administration receives raises in guise of "restructuring". New president has a vote of "no confidence" by faculty from previous college and has just cut 10% of faculty at Coastal Bend, which may result in another "no confidence" vote. Hiring practices for top admin highly suspect. I'm looking to get out in next year or so. I know many faculty are jumping ship. If you have the option, teach for Del Mar or for Alamo district or ISD.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with faculty (not against) to achieve student success.
