I worked at Coda Automotive

Pros

They allow time off when needed without fuss. Most of the employee's are experts in their field. Most of the employee's are great people you build friendships on. The employee's are the best asset of the Company.

Cons

Management has no structure. Too much favoritism makes for bad morale. Big lack of Communication, Mission, and Goal by Management. No unity between management and staff. Everyone is out for themselves.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace your CEO. Put the Legal Department in check. Remind employee's how important they are to the success of the vehicle. Compensate fairly; not on favoritism. Make sure everyone is on the same page.

It's easy to criticize but tough to develop solutions and influence meaningful change

I worked at Coda Automotive full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-Pleasant work environment, maybe too pleasant to effectively drive execution
-Sense of urgency may have recently arrived but certainly lacks focus
    -Admirable environmental improvement objective
-Facilities are appropriate for a startup
-Well-intentioned management but that's not enough to win
-Green tech companies should be quite valuable

    Cons

-Wrong strategic focus on leadership mix, too many old line auto people in management positions (group think mentality), for a green tech company.
-Introducing breakthrough technology is the only value driver but virtually no one has/had that experience.
-Too much headwind: new/semi-proven technology, perceived low-quality Chinese assembly, and strong brand-name competition at a similar price point make this biz model a non-starter in the U.S.
-Essentially no one in the company has VC or PE experience. Shifting from fortune 500 experience is a long putt. No safety net and no one to help prioritize.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Outsource everything and almost everyone auto-related. It's not supposed to be a car company. Utilize best-in-class service providers across the board; they're out there. Your strongest people should be in the purchasing department. The handful of auto people on board should travel 100% to manage outsourced services.
-Cut OVH admin in half, force productivity before someone does it for you.
-Hire proven break-through tech leadership executives across all functions in the prime of their careers, replace all the auto people. Target once great tech companies that are flagging to get the people.....HP?
    -Act very quickly
