    I worked at Coherent full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    There are some good, friendly people working there and the salary was decent. Working conditions were pretty good.

    Cons

    No company loyalty. 401K match was reduced from 6 to 4%. Incentive bonuses, profit sharing, and commissions were eliminated. Older workers are not safe in their jobs or given options even if they have done a good job. People are laid off without any warning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    A company is about more than just profits, it about the people working for the company.

    I worked at Coherent full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    1) Leader in the laser industry - Due to acquisition, not growth.
    2) Salary for all positions is very good and highly competitive. Although all other benefits are very lacking - Low to no Profit sharing / 401k, worst Healthcare coverage available.

    Cons

    1) Poor Leadership - All leaders do not think out of the box. Repeatedly see the same problems occur and no systemic change.
    2) No Growth Opportunity - This company does not offer ways to advance. Most people here are old and do not plan to move up or leave their position. This also gives you an understanding of why they do not think out of the box.
    3) Unclear boundaries between Manufacturing and R&D. They are unable to separate and prioritize these functions. The leadership is bad and so a middle management, you are torn between the two groups.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Have better leadership. Stop changing the goal every 6 months. Learn continuous improvement and create a strategic 5 year plan.
