Current Employee - Practice Management Assistant in Bethesda, MD

I have been working at CohnReznick

Pros

Money and care are put into making the workplace pleasant and building sincere camaraderie. Employees are provided with every resource to work remotely. Firm is a good corporate citizen and certified green by Montgomery County, MD

Cons

Salaries start low. Management is young and and often lacks sophistication and experience. No training or career advancement for people in Practice Management positions.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in practice management and support team, train new and young managers, even principals would benefit from management training. Please continue the staff appreciation shown, but find other ways besides food to thank employees for a job well done. Time off or extra cash are also great ways to say thanks.

I worked at CohnReznick full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    *Fringe Benefits are competitive
    *CPE resources are extensive
*The work environment is accepting of all personalities (Atlanta office)
*Good place for someone interested in the real estate industry

    Cons

*It's like working in a factory. Housing Project auditing on their proprietary software system, Audit Pro, is monotonous and unrewarding.
*I saw compliance test findings ignored
    *It's "check the box" auditing
*Management does not value non-real estate professionals
*Overall morale is very low, turnover seemed unusually high even for a CPA firm

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

*Expand the non-real estate practice or cut it.
*Be up front and honest with potential hires about the lack of opportunity outside of the real-estate side.
*Be forthright about the industry-specific nature of the company as a whole.

    Pros

    -CPE credits
    -Good Salaries, PTO, benefits
    -Bonus for CPA exam

    Cons

-Extremely political and lots of special treatment given to certain people.
    -Communication is really poor
-Gossip is out of control and is sad since the firm is suppose to be a professional organization
-People are willing to do anything to get ahead and will throw individuals under the bus every chance they get.
-Lateral hires are basically not trained at all, but yet will quickly be labeled as bad performers
-90% of the seniors/managers either unwilling or uncapable of teaching
-Real estate is really the only major focus
-Some managers/partners don't respect lower level people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take seminars on how to communicate and actually lead people. Quit giving so much special treatment to certain individuals.
