Coinstar – “Good company, but watch out for politics

Jan 17, 2009

Coinstar Product Manager in Bellevue, WA:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Solid company with a great set of products. A market leader.

Cons

People are more interested in politics than producing. High employee turnover. The IT organization is a joke.

Advice to Senior Management

Work on gettting people to work together across team boundaries rather than work as enemies. Considering the company is doing comparitively well, it is suprising that many employees are so negative and deeply depressed. Managment theorists would suggest this does not bode well for future success. Normally this would suggest cycling in new talent. But, the new talent does not seem to last long because the old unproductive guard will back stab them before they get entrenched. There needs to be a focus on supporting new talent to reduce turnover and improve growth.
