Advice to ManagementAdvice

understand that not every cole haan has to look the same

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Acknowledge the ones beneath you, so many people do hard work and it goes unappreciated but yet the slacker is the one getting promoted.

    I worked at Cole Haan

    Pros

    10 minute interview for position

Immediate hire due to appearing "presentable"

    Decent Pay

    Many hours offered

    Nice discounts available to workers

    Cons

    Manager offered little direction

Seasoned employees resistant to welcome in new workers.

Even with discount, my first paycheck was used to buy navy colored clothing and cole haan shoes to meet uniform requirements.

Store management did not work to create a teamwork environment amongst employees. Instead it was everyone for themself.

Diversity amongst employees was non-existant. All hires had same look, attitude and self fulfilling work goals. It was either conform or have a miserable work experience.

Some store policies were enforced, and others were not depending on shift manager. This caused much confusion as to what associate's responsibilites were.

Short staffed and failing to bring in new hires created stress and tension. Burnout was a common feeling after each shift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be to enforce team building practices during every shift and prompt associates to display warmth and respect towards one another. Encourage employees to be competitive in a healthy and constructive manner. Reinforce that while it is the associates job to produce individual selling results, it is also their job to contribute to a supportive work environment. Management needs to remain on the same page pertaining to shift expectations. This will not only uphold structure of operations, but put sales associates under same job description which will instill a sense of team. Hiring should not be based on appearance and scheduling interviews should be based on relevant work experiences, not personal assumptions. Prepare seasoned employees to share the floor with new workers. Instead of giving experienced associates the task of having new hires shadow them because "they have been there for x amount of years", which automatically puts one worker above the other, introduce new staff as equals. Experienced workers should not be placed on a thrown because this will only intimidate and discourage new associates' perception's of their role. The goal is to fill open positions, maintain a stable and low stress work place and inspire workers to remain in their jobs because they believe in what they are working with.
