I worked at College of Charleston full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great perks (employee discounts, free transit passes, etc) and a relaxed workplace atmosphere. All of the offices are located near Marion Square Park, mass transit stops, great restaurants, and in the center of town.

    Cons

Salaries are low (even for the area which is notorious for low paying jobs) unless you are in upper management. The mid level managers there are a mixed bag, some are fantastic (effective, smart, proactive) while unfortunately others are just terrible, either bad hires or lazy lifers on the public dole with no foresight and no ambition for change.

    Advice to Management

Succession planning and better hiring processes. The biggest thing to do for positive change is to raise your standards for some of the business side hires to the level of your academic side hires. The business functions are just as important to making a place of this size continue to work well. Don't be afraid to "walk the shop floor" every now and then to see what's really going on.
