Pros

Colonial Life has developed a great culture providing a 'community' feeling. Employees are friendly and generally satisfied. The company has a great program to keep involved in the local community and even provides employees time to volunteer 'on the clock'. Ceremonies are frequent and for those eligible, awards are given to reward outstanding customer service.
The benefits package is great and salary seems to be average.

Cons

While training opportunities are offered, there is not much room for upward mobility. Unless you are a part of the 'good old boy network' or are fresh out of college, you are easily overlooked. Management and Senior Leaders look at employees as worker bees. It's better to be seen and not heard.

Advice to Management

Pay more attention to what is going on under your nose instead of trying to impress each other.

    Pros

Good benefits package. Good PTO. Good time off for holidays and special events.

    Cons

there is a great lack of communication from management to the employees. Not in all cases but it appears that way more often than not. There is a lot of good ole boy system still in place there. Way too much stress put on employees. There needs to be more claims examiners to process claims. Just not enough feedback from Colonial or the parent company UNUM. Not enough recognition of the work done and asking employees to work way too much. Making employees feel like they are not valued. Takes way too long to process claims and there are way to many mistakes made in the claims process.

    Advice to Management

Learn to value the employee. Keep him or her informed of their rights. Treat everyone the same and take all circumstances in consideration when making decisions. Actually listen to the feedback instead of just asking. Act on their recommendations. They do the job day to day and know more than management how the customer feels.

  2. Great entry level position but hours do not work well if you are trying to attend school.

    Pros

Great benefits package with matching 401K. Everyone treats you with respect and the company has a family oriented vibe at work.

    Cons

Not a great work life balance. PTO is based on a first come first serve basis. Procedures and rules tend to overlap one another.

    Advice to Management

Create more flexibility for PTO to create work life balance.
