Pros

Great management, friendly atmosphere, flexible scheduling, and decent pay for a retail job.

Cons

Not necessarily a con, but there is a LOT to learn about the technology of the products.

Advice to Management

    Pros

Great benefits for full-time employees 30% discount plus a friends and family list for each employee. Even better around Black Friday. Tuition assistance for PT and FT employees willing to put in effort to apply for corporate assistance. Decent pay for retail. Plus a monthly bonus for PT and FT team members if store reaches sales goal. Recognition and gift card reward for hard workers. I was fortunate to work with a team of genuine managers who cared about the employees. Easy to succeed and be promoted in-store if associate takes initiative to learn.

    Cons

Payroll allowance is linked to previous year's sales - can make it difficult to meet goals if there was no specific reason for a high sales week. Our store fluctuated greatly due to tourists and weather. DMs not always on same page as store staff in terms of realistic goals or individual store quirks.

    Advice to Management

Overall a great company to work for, although there needs to be more District Managers to support store growth. They are spread thin which makes it hard for them to spend quality time in stores.

    Pros

-The discounts you receive on Columbia clothing are pretty good, but the discount is not always consistent. One month you may have a large percentage off while the next month you will have less. -The people you work alongside are, for the most part, great. They are good sounding boards for many of the problems you will encounter.

    Cons

-Compensation is below other peer companies. Unless you sell a large amount of clothing, you are unlikely to make much money in this position. -You're very much a cog in the wheel. Not so much seen as an individual employee, but as a means to make a sale.

    Advice to Management

Sales staff must be treated consistently well. You can be an overall great salesperson, but have one not-so-hot sales day. That day you will be made to feel as if you're a great disappointment. Conversely, you'll have a great day and receive little praise. Encourage middle management to take a long view and look at employees for their overall sales performance.
