I have been working at Columbia University full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

It's pretty chill. Health benefits are great, lots of perks e.g. on campus gym, access to great lectures and events. Free food sometimes.

Cons

The bureaucracy can get pretty heavy at times. For a while there were difficulties with getting fees waived in a timely manner, which caused some annoying problems, though lately that's been fine. Travel reimbursement takes forever.

I worked at Columbia University full-time

    Pros

Excellent benefits, employment opportunities abound within; great people to work with (depending on department); great work/life balance. Overall, CU is a progressive and forward-thinking organization with an abundance of opportunities for future growth and development

    Cons

Limited ability to express ideas; short-sigthed approach to management; a lack of "lead-by-example" leadership; inadequate experience of certain members in executive-level positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the feedback and opinions of your staff as they will go a long way in helping improve employee retention, the overall success of CU, and its ability to accomplish greater things going forward.
