It's a great, poorly managed university.

I have been working at Columbia University full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe research here is top quality and the atmosphere is very collaborative. People in outside labs are very willing to work with you. Classwork is top quality. You're also in the middle of New York, which is nice.

ConsThe management is scattered and chaotic. There are too many departments, none talk to one another. This makes it difficult to get many basic things done. Things like being paid on time.

Also, the shared equipment exists under weird layers of obscure management and much of it is of sub-par quality. Great research doesn't necessary take great equipment, but it sure helps.

Advice to Senior ManagementCentralize your management culture. Seriously, a multitude of rulers is not a good thing.
