I worked at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

Pros

You get into the zoo for free...that's about it.

Cons

Management is unconcerned about staff health and safety. Staff must stand outside with no shade even when there is a heat advisory. Sun block and umbrellas had to be begged for.
No overtime (ever).
Extremely poor management overall.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take better care of your employees. Provide overtime to employees that must stay after their shift has ended to prepare for health inspection the night before it is to take place. Hire managers that are goal oriented and have good organizational skills.

I worked at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

    Pros

Working in the services sector is a good springboard for zoologists or anyone who wants to work with animals. Good insight into the food industry at the customer exchange point. Excellent as a part-time high school job.

    Cons

Inconsistent hours that depends heavily on the number of visitors each day. The job is very boring and repetitive but nonetheless expected for a hourly wage job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your anger management under control.

I worked at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A reasonable starting pay with raises for returning seasonally.
Wonderful coworkers, how wonderful depends on the department. Even then very few people are disagreeable.
A real sense of pride can be felt when you help make someone's trip to the zoo great.
    Plenty of hours available.
Free pass to the zoo and water park.
You will have amazing stories and memories to share for the rest of your life.

    Cons

If you can't handle getting dirty this is not a place for you.
Full time positions are incredibly competitive. Zookeepers especially.
Seasonal work is the only real possibility for most.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
