I have been working at Combined Jewish Philanthropies full-time

Pros

The people are warm and management really listens to new ideas and new ways of doing things. They really make you feel included and part of the CJP team.

Cons

Parking can be really expensive and getting to and from the Financial District can be a pain. It is a non-profit so budgets can be very tight.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be great if salaries were slightly higher to help attract and retain top talent.

    Pros

All Jewish holidays off (about 10 extra a year)
    Generous vacation and sick policy
35 hour work week (but expected to work more)
    Flex working policy

    Cons

    Management is clueless
    high turnover
All raises go towards upper managerment/senior team
    no growth
Very political in terms of promotions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop promoting yourselves
hire the right people who can actually do the job
stop asking for feedback and then ignoring it when we give it you

I worked at Combined Jewish Philanthropies

    Pros

work/life balance, time off, collegial atmosphere, mission of the organization, hires solid professionals, respected organization in the community, convenient office location

    Cons

sometimes policies were not administered in a fair way (sometimes getting ahead felt like a popularity contest) compensation can be low as in all non-profits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

try to consistently apply policies across the organization. help employees better understand "what it takes" to get ahead and get promoted.
