I have been working at Commonfund full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Commonfund is an excellent company for entry-level and second level college graduates. It looks good on a resume. Don't expect to advance. The company's work/life balance is excellent. Arrive at 9AM. Leave at 5PM. A train from NYC stops directly behind the building for reverse commuters. Once in a while, a social event. The company has a local co-ed softball team which is fun. I have made male and female friends for life.

    Cons

Commonfund never recovered from at least two very ill-informed bets between 2008-2010. Clients and assets flocked and never turned backed. The sales force has never been able to recover. They were understaffed, underprepared.

Office culture is odd. Senior Management has allowed fiefdoms to develop. That's the CEO's fault. He hide in his office from 9-5PM

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Each quarter, the CEO, Verne Sedlacek held/holds a staff meeting where he attempted to rationalize lost assets and terrible sales. Morale went from bad to terrible as we new that we would have our salaries cut.

From what I was told, senior management appeared to have there own agendas.

CEO Sedlacek "resigned" in mid-year. I did not know him, but he was totally unliked by all. A bully with some strange hangups.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
