I have been working at Commonwealth Financial Network full-time

Pros

Flexible schedule. Great work life balance. Excellent perks and benefits. Competitive Salaries and generous bonuses. Training / professional growth is encouraged and supported. Fabulous company culture.

Cons

Not many I can think of, only thing I can think of is lack of growth potential, i.e., some departments are very flat so it is extremely difficult to become a manager/lead in those groups.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work.

I have been working at Commonwealth Financial Network full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong corporate culture (when not forced down your throat), great people to work with (who are not in management roles), laid-back atmosphere, great "starter job."

    Cons

Several, starting with an out-of-touch group of leaders. Poor management in several departments, especially within operations, human resources, and product research. Nepotism and favoritism are the only ways employees can be promoted, transferred or praised, and many managers are in their roles based on tenure and not performance. Professional development is lacking even though it is one of the main components of the organization's mission. Flip charts of lists and limited discussion does not constitute top-level professional development. Looking to get promoted or switch jobs? Good luck! Those decisions are made even before the job posting is public. While it may have once been "anything but common" Commonwealth Financial Network is as common as anything else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For starters, you can say it's a great place to work all you want, but in reality, it isn't. Take a good, hard look at your managers in all departments. Are they the right people to be leaders in the organization? Ask the employees and get some honest answers. You could pay a little more for your selectivity process. Bending over backwards in the interview process and then realizing the compensation is less than stellar can be a hard pill to swallow. If you say you have an open-door policy, exercise it. The doors of several partners are always closed. That sends the wrong message, especially if there are employee issues. Try to separate family employees from working in the same department as it sends an entirely wrong message. Don't strong arm employees into providing indispensable service when you are clearly not doing it yourselves. Practicing what you preach will go a long way.
