Enjoyed the work immensely; enjoyed the coworkers as well. Upper management and opportunities were the pits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The new senior mangement in Baton Rouge, are not very friendly towards the back of Commuity Coffee, the route salesmen. They have a critirea and if you do not meet it, you are shown the door in a rude manner, no matter how long you are employed by Community Coffee

    I worked at Community Coffee

    Pros

    Free coffee
Opportunity to learn about the variances of making different coffees
    Flexible schedule, to a point.
    Typically friendly coworkers

    Cons

A gap between management and the baristas, with management having a feel of meritocracy, superiority, and camaraderie within their ranks that the baristas aren't able to share.

Chance for promotion is sketchy, with no one quite knowing the requirements. Some new employees who aren't nearly as qualified as experienced baristas are hired as leads for a cheaper price than a promotion.

The pace is hectic, which is understandable, given the high volume demands of specialty coffee drinks these days. The system under which this pacing is governed and handled is somewhat askew. Many times you'll see people dancing all behind the counter trying to do each others' jobs.

Most shifts are 8+ hours, and you are lucky if you catch a break, and even luckier if that break is longer that 20 minutes. This is due to the fact that only the bare minimum of people are typically on shift to keep labor costs down. Managers are granted a bonus if their labor is below 26% for the week.

The pay is pitiful, absolute minimum granted by law. Promotion gives you an extra dollar and about 3x as much duties. Also, you are granted janitorial duties, which includes washing and upkeeping every surface available in the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a moral compass: pay your employees correctly, stop worrying about the bottom line. You've lost many a good soldier for a cheap buck.
