Pros

Tolerable health benefits, free parking,that's about all that i can say that would be a best reason to work for Community Health Systems

Cons

Pension frozen, arrogant managers, all functions revolve around cost--not what's necessarily the best for the patient, bathrooms are filthy, overpriced lousy cafeteria food, crappy computer systems, always running out of supplies(especially on weekends and holidays), staffing levels are sometimes horrendous.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Supply hospitals with adequate supplies, get decent cleaning staff that actually clean, decent affordable food, and adequate staffing. One nursing assistant for 18 or 20 patients is way too many. I would also look at the employee surveys and ask some tough questions of those managers who continue to get poor results. Several years running with low scores should tell you people that there are problems, that people are not happy there, and that there will be staff turnover. Once the economy gets moving again, I anticipate a wave of departures.

    Pros

    Stable company in good financial shape. Excellent co-worker atmosphere. Average to good salaries.

    Cons

    Lack of resources to do your job efficiently. Old computer equipment, severe understaffing, unrealistic expectations. Senior Management may run the company profitably, but they have no clue as to what is going on below the 7th floor.

    Profits keep a company going, but people make it a welcome place to work.

    Pros

    Very stable, well run company. Management is very talented and I had complete confidence in them that they would make sure that employees kept their jobs and shareholders saw returns.

    Cons

    Very conservative--- run like a 1980s company. Corporate management is an old-boys club and there is a big emphasis on everyone else to "pay their dues." There was very little feedback and if you are a young person just starting out, be prepared for a tough ride-- a lot of pressure for "face time" and no bonus. Benefits were lacking as well- only 10 days vacation but people game the system and call in sick all the time- not very advanced in human capital management. No culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work on boosting labor productivity to save money. Focus on creating a positive corporate culture with a rewards structure to attract the best talent possible.
