I worked at Computer Sciences Corp full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

CSC's nascent federal consulting practice (formerly known as FCP, called something else) had some good, nice people. Innovative career development and mentoring model. Good mix of people that included some smart, nice young consultants.

    Cons

Outside of FCP and other pockets, CSC is an old, slow, conservative company led by old, white, American males who have spent most of their careers in the US govt market----to the contrary of being its self-image as a global technology company. The company is massive...and bureaucratic. Have to go through so many layers of depts that don't talk to each other to get anything done. Also saw alot of kids w/ mediocre resumes get in b/c their parents worked there...have mixed feelings about that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to keep people, expand your career development model to the rest of CSC outside of FCP...FCP is too small a space. For CSC---your slow, conservative mindset = dead man walking; maybe you will be lucky to be acquired by IBM or Accenture for your cash cow legacy govt programs. You need to wake up and invest in innovation, talent development and get off of just doing call centers and systems implentation, "everything as a service"---and actually produce something original. Mediocrity does not sell well.

I worked at Computer Sciences Corp full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Your benefits start on Day 1, and the added employee discounts were pretty good also.

    Cons

I worked for a person who married their way into management, and had no clue of what it took to run a department and will never learn because they would be outside taking smoke brakes every hour(seriously, I began timing them). The Vice President, thinks he is really a principle because he would walk the isles every other hour to make sure people weren't on the internet without a break sign up, or on their cell phones. Oh did I mention this was an office, not a call center. One supervisor was 2 years out of college, had no office supervisory experience but had a bachelor degree in accounting, and experience as a cashier supervisor before the current position, oh and the relative of a director, so they got the job. The supervisor ultimately grew into the position and would have been a better pick for manager but mainly because of the lack of actual experience in the field its self (besides the manager never did anything, or even interacted with employees unless it was to reprimand them)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use more time encouraging your employees instead of treating them like kids, and dont be afraid to try new things just because your scared the person giving the suggestion might get your job. Lastly if your going to have a data entry dept, please do not sacrifice the integrity of the QA dept just to make error rates look good. Its really pathetic
