I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than a year

Pros

Decent work/life balance, decent benefits, good people and changing (for the better) upper management

Cons

Does not do a good job matching skills to projects, not a lot of flexibility for consultants, many people being axed currently (despite longevity at company)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing to make this company competitive. Lower level management can be basically clueless

    Pros

Whether or not you agree with your rate of pay, you are paid on time and mostly accurately.

    Cons

This is the worst managed company that I have worked for in my career. For the vast numbers of employees there are relatively few decision makers at any level because they are scared to think outside the box. The managers agree to whatever austere measures executive managment throws at them in order to keep their jobs.

Mike Lawrie is running a shell company right now full of consultants who have become the decision makers regardless of the consequences of the decisions. He has wrong headedly allowed them to suggest and lay off people based on their age, salaries and length of time with the company when many of these employees were performing the majority of the work in their areas. As people were cut, in many cases their work has never been picked up because nobody knew how are what to do.

Employees have been disrespected for years by being forced to take vacations with little notice, expensive health benefits, frozen pensions (none for new employees), lack of advancement opportunities and discriminatory practices are the norm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No hope. Perhaps a sell will save the employees.

I worked at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The team worked well together and did everything they could with what they had to give the government what they wanted.
The security dept. was spot on in doing their job and even went above and beyond in helping employees keep their security clearance.

    Cons

There seems to be too much of a communications disconnect between HQ and the local Manager, which left the supervisor in the dark and contractors not knowing what to do.
The HR dept. is disorganized and not able to handle employee paperwork in a timely fashion. The employee ends up finding out how to do their job and then informs HR what they need to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be an improvement to communicate better between upper Management down to local managers on what you expect of them and be detailed on the objectives you have planned. Also check to make sure all HR staff are trained and know the policies and procedures for handling employees issues. For example, in-processing new and past employees, college reimbursement.
