Directionless, Out of touch, compartmentalized responsibilities, and a "pass the buck" approach to issues and projects.

I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp full-time

    Pros

With a very thorough screening process for employment, this is a large company with many opportunities and a wide range of employee skill sets to draw upon.

    Cons

Medical benefit coverage is decent, but expensive. A family of 4 can expect approximately $700/months fro full coverage. Pay lags a bit behind the industry, and is set by job classification, so everyone with the same title, makes the same pay. Vacation is not prorated. you can only take what you have earned to that point, and starts at a paltry 2 weeks a year. Both pay rate and vacation time are not-negotiable per company policy. documentation is out of date or non-existent with an, "I don't have time" mentality when asked where it is. Over-burdened with procedures t the point of more time weekly spent on procedures, than actual work done for clients. No direction or mentoring for new employees. you are expected to "figure it out as you go". Outdated computer equipment given to new employees seems to be a standard practice. Technology raining is mostly on-line only, with attendance of actual classes seeming to be extremely rare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better new employee orientation and "shadowing" of existing employees by new hires, as a way to better familiarize new workers with established procedures. Reduce "time-waster" processes, ad renew focus of positive productive work. Be willing to negotiate salary and PTO with new hires, as CSC will lose bright, innovative to other companies that place better value on the skills, knowledge and experience of their employees. In keeping with the image CSC is trying to maintain, provide employees with the appropriate and current quality and technology to their workers to get the job done right. Encourage issue and project "ownership", instead of "turfing" things from one group to the next. Put more emphasis on employee training, realizing that not everyone learns through distance learning effectively.

I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The work was challenging and never dull. There are a lot of great people that work there, but not many stay.

    Cons

The management philosophy was very similar to the military. Do what are you are told, when you are told and how you are told. Any details are on a need to basis only, with many details never communicated to the ranks. There is very little upward mobility and the management makes very poor decisions for short term results. Compensation, facilities and equipment are on the low end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your people as valuable resources. Give them an opportunity to contribute and be involved. By constantly laying off folks, you are losing the knowledge that allows you to grow your business.
