I worked at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than a year

Pros

Multiple high-quality resources and some genuinely good people to consult with. The size of CSC provides for many opportunities to network with others.

Cons

Slow moving due to their size. Much effort is focused on cost cutting, and those costs usually involve valued team members. Communication between customer and CSC is vague, and that makes it difficult for CSC employees to provide the best service to those customers.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please consider looking at the big picture and stop focusing solely on the this quarter's bottom line.

It started off really well but eventually spiraled downward.

I worked at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The initial salary and benefits (STD, LTD, Life Insurance) are very competitive.
The ability to telecommute in some jobs was a definite plus.

    Cons

Internal services (e-mail), browser compatibility (eTES uses only IE) antiquated yet they provide new technologies to customers.

Terrible middle Management-most I ran across were only concerned for their careers at the expense of others. Would throw ethics "out the window" or anyone "under the bus" just to get ahead or make themselves look better.

Cold-hearted! Riffed a lot of personnel (some with 15+ years) with ZERO notice; riffed same day as notification.

Only concerned about numbers not experience. Hired Junior or Entry-Level personnel to replace experienced Engineers and wondered why quality and productivity tanked.

NEPOTISM! Hired inexperienced and usually very unqualified personnel just because they were related to Director's and Senior Managers to eventually replace qualified personnel.

If personnel complained (especially to HR) they didn't last long and were soon dismissed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that people are your biggest and greatest assets.

I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp full-time

    Pros

Flexible hours, good range of exposure to technologies

    Cons

Compensation lags the industry, perks are non existent, over-reliance on undertrained offshore resources. New appraisal methodology has a 15% cap on "exceeds" expectations and nearly half must be rated as "partially meets" or worse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up with industry compensation, stop letting your most experienced resources walk away. Promote those who deserve it. Abandon the Jack Welch model in which nearly half your resources must be rated as either "fails to meet" or "partially meets" expectation.
