I have been working at Con Edison of New York (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people, stable company. You will have a job that has a high retention rate due to the fact that the company does lay people off. They will allow employees to retire and not fill the position rather that cut the workforce with layoffs.

    Cons

If you work in management - added 5 more year before you retire, medical plan is expensive.
If you work in the union - no pension anymore, medical has gone up, bit not as much as management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on training employees for different careers if they so desire.
Allow employees to work at home if possible for certain positions.
