I have been working at ConAgra Foods

Pros

If you enjoy working for large companies ConAgra is a great place to work because of the inclusive culture that Senior Management is cultivating.

Cons

My experience at ConAgra has been great and there are very many downsides to me. The one downside that i will mention is the seemly unfair way that some Senior Leaders handle promotions.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

ConAgra is a wonderful place to work. Over the past several years I have noticed a true change in the way that Senior Leaders treat the employees. However, it is important that promotions are handled fairly and without bias.

    I worked at ConAgra Foods

    Pros

Its a place to start. It has great brands. It is well known in the CPG industry. No salmonella poisoning for almost a year!

    Cons

Clueless upper management. Process valued above achievement of goals. Advancement depends on blindly following management edicts whether they are good for business or not. Dissension is not encouraged or allowed. When goals are not met due to poor planning scapegoats are always found.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Deal with reality as it is not how you would like it to be. Treat employees with respect and listen to their opinions and concerns.

I have been working at ConAgra Foods

    Pros

ConAgra is a large enough company that the glass ceiling is just not as prominant in terms of advancement possibilities, given an acceptable level of job performance, qualifications, and desire. From my experience, a valued employee who contributes is taken care of while the underperformers or malcontents are shown the door. There are a vast number of locations including corporate offices, plants, sales locations, etc. The company does a good job of promoting from within as much as possible. Compensation in line with others in area.

    Cons

There has been significant turmoil over stock price, layoffs, etc in the past year. Many people feel they are being unfairly treated, but in all honesty, the few positions eliminated were either overstaffed to begin with or jobs that can be outsourced much more efficiently. Much of the downsizing was done by not hiring for open positions. Stock price has been dropping over the past 18 months, however, this has not affected the general workforce so far. Mainly hurt those with options that are now far underwater. Other than HQ in Omaha, and smaller offices in Chicago and Minneapolis, the majority of positions are located in manufacturing facilities. Most of these locations are in extremely small towns in the middle of nowhere. For certain people this is great, for others you will feel like you are cut off from the rest of the world. I also think that having a ConAgra position on your resume is a negative if applying for a position at other food manufacturers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management needs to somehow fix the issue of employees feeling they are on the edge of losing their jobs in reorganizations or selloffs. While it has decreased the bad energy is still felt especially in Omaha. Good job on tweaking benefits based on employee feedback. The 3 week minimum vacation time for all employees was a great thing to implement. Thank you!
