Pros

For the most part people were friendly, benefits and compensation are very good, and the job was not at all stressful.

Job position was falsely advertised, implied a high level of responsibilities and project management but turned out to be clerical data entry 95% of the time.

I have been working at ConAgra Foods full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Now regarded as a brand building company...not like under previous management teams. Structure is still a bit weird. Good opportunity for advancement for high performers.

    Cons

Every three years there is a major restructuring to take more cost out of the system. There is a lack of conviction about sticking to a strategy...as soon as the financials are off for a quarter, there is a firedrill to shift courses and abandon the annual plan. Not a training ground like a P&G, Kraft or General Mills - definitely better for experienced professionals who have gained some "seasoning" at another CPG

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employees to do their job! If you don't think they are capable, get new ones!

I have been working at ConAgra Foods full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

ConAgra has a Midwestern culture which values a strong work ethic and performance with a competitive comp/benefits package. Family friendly, depending on the department that one is working within. Workload and development opportunities appear to be in line with many CPG companies.

    Cons

It's tough to understand what the true long term goals are of the company are. The message has changed over time and ongoing communication isn't consistent. Business performance is challenged which has resulted in many short term actions that don't appear to be well thought out. Lack of a cohesive, long term strategy is an ongoing miss at the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company struggles to define a long term market strategy that is reflected in the leadership across business units. There's a lack of cohesion that is visible across department deliverables and objectives. Leadership would benefit from shifting focus from the short term business needs to fully acknowledging the changing business climate, and develop/commit to a long term plan which reflects these changes.
