Former Employee – worked at Concentra
Pros – Over 300 clinics nationwide gives employees great latitude if relocating.
Many opportunities for advancement within the company.
Concentra is a market leader in its niche of occupational healthcare, providing above average job stability.
Cons – Very demanding work environment for both administrators and staff at the clinic level.
Staffing levels are sometimes unrealistic and not conducive to good customer service.
Constant shifts in focus and strategy by corporate forces clinics to keep adjusting to changes instead of simply providing competent and compassionate care to patients.
Severe disconnect between senior management and front line clinical staff.
Advice to Senior Management – If Concentra really wants to "improve America's heath, one patient at a time," the clinics and their staff have to be properly trained and empowered to take care of each patient as an individual. The token emphasis on customer service is disingenuous, and ultimately ineffective, when the emphasis is truly on numbers. Concentra has very effectively built their business model around the reality that medicine has become a volume business and Concentra needs to accept that it has become the McDonald's of healthcare, expertly churning patients in and out of the system. Focus on what you're great at, instead of forcing the clinical staff to make transparent overtures towards patients. If you REALLY want to emphasize patient care, everything needs to start and end there.
