I worked at Conservation International

Pros

CI is full of talented, energetic, and passionate people who truly care about their jobs. It's a highly flexible environment allowing alternative hours, working from, travel opportunities, and good leave policies. Regular company events, happy hours, 'brown bags' allow social and networking opportunities.

Cons

As a large worldwide organization it is possible to get lost. There are limited upward advancement opportunities. Recent changes in structure and mission have been challenging to morale.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

CI has grown very fast and become a great organization, but there seems to be some element of 'founder's sydrome', while the organization hasn't lost its dynamism it has begun to drift.

    I worked at Conservation International

    Pros

    Great benefits, and interesting informative brown-bag presentations that seem to be encouraged to attend by everyone, which was nice.

    Cons

    This isn't the friendliest office I've worked at - I honestly feel like the atmosphere here is a bit "cold" and clique-ish unless you are part of the "in" crowd. The management style also can be a bit alarmist- ie, it is difficult to tell what is truly "urgent" versus something important that could be worked on over the next few days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Make priorities clearer so as to reduce day to day stress that is a result of feeling like every task given to do is of equal importance or "urgent." Also occasionally check in with employees to make sure people aren't truly feeling overworked- I frequently overheard people talking about how they had to stay late frequently to work, and how they had too many deadlines.
