I have been working at Consolidated Graphics full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-You work with high profile clients and develop great professional skills and networks.
-Put right into the fire to learn while you are working, gaining knowledge about the ins and outs of a printing/marketing company
-Pushing technology in an old industry so lots of opportunity in tech field and headed into a good direction
-LDP is evolving and most of management continues to improve the program
-Opportunity is there for growth and climbing the corporate ladder but must sacrifice a lot of time and must travel at months at a time

    Cons

-Limited field for interested growth, hard to keep young driven professionals excited
-Depending on which company, rotations can be too long and boring
-Very sales minded of course, seems like only certain candidates with great connections with a natural-binded client can be promoted to a high management position
-work extremely long hours especially those who volunteer for peak seasons with extra comp.
-low retention rate has been proven year after year - not a good sign
-very low compensation for the work you put in - at first its not too bad until you realize how much money you are making for the company and see none of it come to you. Pay is equal throughout the companies in each state so for some like CA it would be harder than others in different states

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better yearly reviews for associates, more opportunities for remote programs
Overall a solid place to start your work experience.

I worked at Consolidated Graphics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    -Lots of hands on work/experience
-plenty of room to travel/relocate, always looking for help
-opportunity to become president if you survive
    -associates are usually good people

    Cons

-manual labor is much worse than they make it out to be
-high LDP turnover at most plants
    -low morale in plants
-most plant workers hate ldp associates because of the turnover and at a bunch of the facilities LDP's have taken full time roles from long time employees that got let go because they got paid too much, even trying to suck up to them doesnt work, as they hate cgx for pay cuts
-associates are cut throat and will make others look bad for their own good
-old tech that doesn't translate into experience anywhere else, and frustrating when trying to use it
-management just gives you task and expects you to do it, even if you have no clue about how any of it works
-some rotations consist of you sitting there watching a full time employee do his job each day
-hiring quoatas, regardless of how good candidates are, show how little they care, they just want one out of 10 to survive and then they have enough to manage the company and got cheap labor out of the others
-basically no benefits and just ok pay, little room for pay increase
-its all about the bottom line, there is no desire to make sure employees are happy, learning, have any input in company

If you love print/have a school background in it, it could be a great start, otherwise you will be like the 80% who last a year and leave with either a better job or just get out to stop the misery

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't just use associates for manual labor and cheap labor once they move up in the program. Actually invest in them. Also when you do invest in them make it sincere, unlike the attempt to get associates to volunteer and make the company appear better, also actually have a plan when you announce the program is changing, not just its going to change and roll it out slowly as if it was a last minute decision
