Consolidated Media – “Great media brands, not sure they get it...”
Pros
Exposure to successful media brands and interesting alliances, so opportunities to broaden contacts across the industry (if you're in the right place within the organisation). The atmosphere is generally collegial and there's an extraordinary level of committment from most staff and managers.
Cons
Fundamental confusion among exec & senior management about how to invest and operate in new media - which led to unrealistic expectations and poor strategy development and execution. Combined with an unhealthy obsession with keeping headcount down, the confusion cascaded down to staff who were expected to achieve the impossible.
Advice to Senior Management
It's not enough to have people that are passionate and committed to an industry at the operating levels of the organisation; I never sensed that passion coming from the senior level.
