I have been working at Constellation Brands full-time

Pros

Company strives for work hard, play hard concept. People tend to be highly experienced. There are very few employees with little experience. Generally, people stay at the company a long time. Many people truely love working here in alcohol beverage industry.

Cons

You have to do your job and do it well, otherwise, this is a company that will let underperformers go. (Some may like a culture like that)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide a way for general employee feedback, anonomously. There are a few people that may be poisining the great culture.

Good pay and perks, politics and posturing are hard to stomach

    I worked at Constellation Brands

    Pros

    Product Allowance
Strong philanthropy -- Sands family really cares about Rochester
Good pay, especially at the director level and above
    Very nice facilities

    Cons

The company sees itself as nimble and unafraid of bold moves and change, but this can translate into way too much turnover and fickle, capricious decision making. "Hippo" (highest paid person's opinion) always rules. Strategies that are agreed and signed off on can/do change on the whim of one person which creates uneccessary churn and waste. Lots of CYA behavior at the VP level and above which also wastes time and energy. Because of this, projects are usually not thought through or resourced correctly, which leads to junior people moving heaven and earth to clean up the mess. Some people get placed in positions they have little/no training or qualifications for; others get fired out of the blue for little/no reason which leaves the rest of the team demoralized and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Some of this goes on in all companies, but it's taken to an extreme at Constellation, which is unfortunate. With a higher-caliber leadership team, the company would be unstoppable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have the courage, discipline, and focus to hire and promote the best people, not just your friends. Be visible, come in earlier/stay later, don't hit the gym for 2 hours during business hours routinely, and generally work as hard as your people do. Make sure your actions match your rhetoric -- your people are watching. Ask yourselves, what have I personally done to make Constellation better today?

    Pros

Great training programs and opportunities to grow your skill set. If this is your first supplier job you will be able to transfer to any company in the industry after spending a few years with Constellation.

    Cons

The politics involved in moving advancing through this organization are unbelievable. THere are meny talented people workignhere but they are not always the ones that get promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your teams and how they are working together. This is a group of individuals not a cohesive unit.
