I have been working at Constellation Energy Commodities full-time

Pros

Pay well and decent job security. Co-workers are generally nice and pleasant to work with.

Cons

Merger has been a failure. New Exelon management makes political decisions rather than focusing on what is right or makes money. They bought a private equity shop and are destroying it and the culture that built it. Extremely political environment - the Constellation meritocracy has been dismantled and experienced, intelligent Constellation managers report to a good old boy network with half the IQ. Expect strong turnover next year.

I have been working at Constellation Energy Commodities

    Pros

    - knowledge of those around you
    - there might be opportunity for growth if company follows through on plans to build new nuclear
    - investment grade rating, credit joke
    - for those that put in the effort and time (long hours) performance based comp can be significant, but at the same time if you fail to really impress you will get the target

    Cons

    - does not pay for internal talent, would rather pay external (new) hires higher comp for same position regardless of education and experience
    - Sr. mngmt has the tendency to be out of touch with their support staff
    - has had a "dog-eat-dog" mentality in the past
    - difficult to transition into front-office type roles
    - shrinking of trading desk, selling gas and foreign businesses greatly reduced the options for internal mobility

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, they are your greatest asset. Respect and develop a culture from within that values and rewards existing talent and stop seeking out external talent to fill holes within the organization. Develop and achieve shorter-term goals. This not only gives the street something to consider when evaluating our stock but also gives the employees something to get behind.
