Continental Airlines Manager in Houston, TX:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

There are lots of smart, talented people that care about the direction of the company and the quality of the work. At times it can be a very rewarding place, with recognition and kudos where it matters. High degree of freedom and latitude given to employees in their decision making process (the flipside is there is very little direction or guidance.) At times they are very flexible about schedule. Most employees really believe in the company and care about its reputation.

Cons

The culture is disintegrating as the industry gets worse and worse. The place is going downhill fast. Burnout is rampant. Pay scale is based on 1990's surveys. The more layoffs occur the more cutthroat and overworked people get. Flight benefits are a joke. Like previous posters have stated there is very little reward for doing a good job, and very little punishment for doing a bad job. Most middle management has been promoted due to tenure rather than talent.

Advice to Senior Management

The culture made Continental what it is, and if that disappears Continental will disappear with it.
